Surah Al-Gashiya
(The Overwhelming Calamity)
Chapter 88
It is 26 Verses 1 Unit (Ruku’): Revealed at Makkah
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
1. Has not there come to you the News of the Overwhelming Event (of Ressurection)?
2. (Some) faces on that Day will be downcast,
3. Laboring (hard in the worldly life by worshiping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace),
4. They will enter into an intensely hot Fire,
5. They will be given to drink from a boiling hot spring.
6. They will have no food except a poisonous thorny plant,
7. Which will neither nourish nor satisfy (them) against hunger.
8. (Other) faces on that Day will be joyful,
9. Well-pleased with their striving,
10. In a Garden, high,
11. Wherein they shall not hear vain talk.
12. Therein is a flowing spring,
13. Therein are thrones raised high,
14. And drinking cups ready placed,
15. And cushions set in rows,
16. And carpets (all) spread out.
17. Will they not then look at the camels, how they are created?
18. And at the sky, how it is raised high?
19. And at the mountains, how they are firmly fixed?
20. And at the earth, how it is spread out?
21. So (continue to) remind (them), for you are (O Prophet Muhammad) only a reminder.
22. You cannot compel them (to believe);
23. But whoever turns back and disbelieves,
24. Allah will punish him with the Greatest Torment.
25. Surely to (Allah) is their Return,
26. Then surely upon (Allah) is their Reckoning.
