| Al-Muddathir (The Mantled Messenger) Chapter 74 It is 56 Verses 2 Units (Ruku’): Revealed at Makkah In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful 1. O you (Prophet Muhammad) enveloped in your cloak (covering yourself with garments out of fear from what you have seen i.e., the Angel Gabriel for the first time)! 2. Arise and warn (the world), 3. And magnify (Allah) your Lord, 4. And purify your garments, 5. And keep away from idols, (their worship, and other sins and impurities - spiritual and physical), 6. And do not confer favor in order that you may receive more (in return), 7. And be patient for the Sake of (Allah) your Lord. 8. And when the trumpet is blown, 9. That Day, will be a difficult day, 10. For the disbelievers, not easy. 11. Leave Me with the one whom I created alone, 12. And gave him vast riches, 13. And sons to be by his side (serving him), 14. And I made life smooth and comfortable for him; 15. And yet he desires that I should add more! 16. No! (It shall never be) since He has been opposing Our Verses. 17. I shall oblige him to climb a painful uphill climb. 18. Surely he thought and plotted (against the Truth), 19. Cursed is he! How he plotted. 20. Again, cursed is he! How he plotted. 21. Then he cast a glance. 22. Then he frowned and showed displeasure, 23. Then he turned back (on Our Message) and was haughty with pride, 24. Then he said: ‘This is nothing but magic, derived from that of old; 25. This is nothing but the word of a human being.’ |

| 26. I (Allah) will cast him into Hell. 27. And what will make you know what Hell is? 28. It leaves nothing nor does it spare anything. 29. Burning the skins. 30. Over it are nineteen (Angels as keepers and guardians of Hell). 31. And We have appointed only Angels to be the wardens of the Fire, and We have specified their number only as a trial for the disbelievers, that those (Jews and Nazarenes) who have been given the Scripture may be certain and the believers may increase in Faith, and those (Jews and Nazarenes) who have been given the Scripture and the believers may not be in doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this Parable? Thus does Allah (justly) leave astray whom He wills and He guides (as Favor from Him) whom He wills, and none knows the soldiers of (Allah) your Lord except Him; and this is only a Reminder to mankind. 32. No. I (Allah) swear by the moon, 33. And by the night when it departs, 34. And by the daybreak when it shines; 35. Surely it (Hell) is one of the gravest (afflictions), 36. A Warning to mankind, 37. To him among you who wishes to go forward (with goodness) or remain behind (in heedlessness). 38. Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 39. Except the people of the right hand, 40. (Who will be) in Gardens - they will ask each other, 41. About the defiant unbelieving people: 42. What has brought you into Hell? 43. They will say: We were not of those who prayed; 44. And we were not of those who fed the poor; 45. And we used to indulge in vain discourses with those who indulged in them. 46. And we used to deny the Day of Judgment. 47. Until there came to us the certainty (of death). 48. So the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 49. What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the Advice and Admonition (the Qur’an). 50. As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 51. Fleeing from a lion? 52. Rather; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out, 53. No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 54. No! It (the Qur’an) is surely a Reminder. 55. So whoever wills, may remember it. 56. And they will not heed unless Allah wills it. He is deserving to be feared (by doing what He has Commanded and avoiding that which He has Prohibited, whilst loving Allah and placing one’s hopes in Him), and He is the One Who forgives (all sins - for those who seek His Forgivenes.
