Surah Al-Jumu’a
(The Friday Congregation)
Chapter 62
It is 11 Verses 2 Units (Ruku’): Revealed at Madinah
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
1. Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth declares the Glory of Allah, the King, the Holy, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
2. He (Allah) it is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger (the Prophet Muhammad) from themselves, reciting to them His Verses and purifying them, and teaching them the Scripture (the Qur’an) and the Wisdom, although they were before certainly in manifest error.
3. And (a Messenger to) another group (i.e., to all people from all times, races and regions), who have not yet joined them; and He (Allah) is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
4. Such is Allah’s Bounty; He grants it to whom He wills, for Allah is the Lord of Great Bounty.
5. The likeness of those who were entrusted with the Torah, then they did not observe it, is as the likeness of the donkey bearing burdens of books on its back (but understands nothing from them). How evil is the example of the people who deny the Verses of Allah (the Qur,an); and Allah does not guide the defiant wrongdoing people.
6. Say: O you who follow the beliefs of Judaism, if you claim that you (alone) are close to Allah with the exclusion of all other people, then long for death if you are truthful.
7. And they will never long for death because of what their hands have sent forth (of evil); and Allah knows well the workers of iniquity (the evildoers).
8. Say: (As for) the death from which you flee, that will surely overtake you, then you shall be sent back to (Allah) the Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will inform you of that which you used to do.
9. O you who believe (in Allah and His last Messenger Muhammad)! When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the day of assembly), then hasten to the Remembrance of Allah (God) and leave off trading; this is better for you, if you but knew.
10. But once the prayer is over, then disperse in the land and seek of Allah’s bounty, and remember Allah much, so that you may be successful
11. But (on one occasion) when they saw some merchandise or amusement (O Prophet Muhammad) they rushed to it, and left you standing. Say: What is with Allah (God) is better than any amusement and (better) than merchandise, for Allah is the Best of providers.
