| Surah Al-Ahqaf
(The Curved Sandhills)
Chapter 46
It is 35 Verses 4 Units (Ruku’): Revealed at Makkah
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
1. (The Qur’an is in the Arabic language which consists of Arabic letters such as:)
Ha Meem. (Yet no one can produce even the shortest Chapter of the miraculous wonder of the Qur’an.)
2. The Revelation of the Scripture (Qur’an) is from Allah (God), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
3. We (Allah) did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and (for) an appointed term; and those who disbelieve (in Allah, His last Messenger Muhammad, and the Last Day) turn away from what they are warned of.
4. Say: Have you considered what you call upon besides Allah? Show me what they have created of the earth, or have they a share in the heavens? Bring me a Scripture (revealed) before this, or a (remaining) trace of knowledge (which proves that they are partners to Allah), if you are truthful, (which you will never do).
5. And who is more astray than he who calls on other than Allah, such as that will not answer him til the Day of Resurrection, and they are heedless of their call?
6. And when the people are gathered together they will be their enemies, and will be deniers of their worshiping (them).
7. And when Our clear Verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve say with regard to the Truth when it comes to them: This is clear magic.
8. Or they say: He (Muhammad) has invented it (the Qur’an). Say: If I have invented it, you do not control anything for me from Allah (God); He knows best what you utter about it; sufficient is He as a Witness between me and you, and He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
9. Say: I am not the first of the Messengers (of Allah), and I do not know what will be done with me or with you (i.e., I do not know the unseen except what Allah has Revealed to me): I only follow that which is Revealed to me, and I am only a plain warner.
10. Say: Have you considered if it (the Qur’an) is from Allah (God), and you disbelieve in it, and a witness from among the (learned) children of Israel testified that the Qur’an (is from Allah) like (the Torah), so he believed, while you are haughty with pride; surely Allah does not guide the defiant wrongdoing people.
11. And those who disbelieve say of those who believe: ‘Had it (the Islamic Faith) been a good thing, they would not have preceded us to it!’
And when they have not let themselves be guided by it, they say: ‘This is an ancient lie!’
12. And before it the Scripture of Moses (Torah) was a Guide and a Mercy.
And this is a Scripture (Qur’an) confirming (it) in the Arabic language that it may warn (of Chastisement for) those who work iniquity (by worshiping other than Allah), and as good news (of eternal Bliss) for the doers of good.
13. Surely those who say, our (One and only True) Lord (Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler) is Allah, then remain firm (on the right Path), they shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve.
14. These are the dwellers of Paradise, abiding therein forever: A reward for what they used to do (of goodness).
15. And We have enjoined on man to be good and kind to his parents; with hardship did his mother bear him and with hardship did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him is thirty months; until when he attains full strength and reaches forty years, he may say: ‘(O Allah) my Lord! Grant me that I may give thanks for Your Favor which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do righteous deeds which pleases You, and make my offspring righteous; surely I turn to You (in repentance and obedience), and surely I am one of the Muslims (submitting to Your Will).’
16. These are the ones from whom We shall accept the best of what they have done, and overlook their bad deeds, among the dwellers of Paradise; the Promise of Truth which they were promised.
17. But he who says to his parents: Fie on you! Do you threaten me that I shall be brought forth when generations have already passed on before me?
And they both (the parents) call for Allah’s Aid (and say): O no! Believe, surely the Promise of Allah is (always) true. But he says: This is nothing but stories of the ancients.
18. These are the ones against whom the Word (of Torment) is justified among nations of the jinn and men which have passed on before them; surely they are the losers.
19. And for all are degrees according to what they did, and that He may pay them back fully their deeds, and they will not be dealt with unjustly.
20. And on the Day when the disbelievers will be brought before the Hellfire, (it will be said): You exhausted your good things in your life of the world, and you enjoyed them for a while, so this Day you will be recompensed with the Torment of humiliation because you were arrogant in the land without a right, and because you used to defiantly disobey.
21. And mention (Hud) the brother of (the tribe of) ‘Aad; when he warned his people in the sandy plains - and indeed warners came before him and after him, saying: Worship none but Allah; surely I fear for you the Torment of a Terrible Day.
22. They said: Have you come to us to turn us away from our gods; then bring us what you threaten us with, if you are of the truthful ones.
23. He said: The knowledge is only with Allah (God), and I convey to you the Message with which I am sent, but I see you are a people who are ignorant.
24. So when they saw it as a cloud appearing in the sky advancing toward their valleys, they said: This is a cloud which will give us rain.
Rather! It is what you sought to hasten on - a blast of wind wherein is a painful Torment,
25. Destroying everything by the Command of (Allah) its Lord, so they became such that nothing could be seen except their dwellings. Thus do We recompense the defiant unbelieving people. |

26. And certainly We had established them in what We have not established you in, and We had given them hearing and eyesight and intellects, but neither their hearing, nor their eyes, nor their intellects benefit them anything, since they denied the Signs of Allah, and that which they mocked encompassed them.
27. And certainly We (Allah) destroyed those (sinful) villages which are around you, and We varied the Warnings and Signs that they might turn back (from their evil ways).
28. Why did not then those help them whom they took for gods besides Allah to draw (them) near (to Him)? But they were lost to them; and this was their lie and what they invented.
29. And (mention, O Prophet Muhammad) when We turned toward you a party of the jinn listening to the Qur’an; so when they attended to it, they said: Be silent; then when it was finished, they turned back to their people warning (them).
30. They said: O our people! We have listened to a Scripture (Qur’an) sent down after Moses confirming that which is before it, guiding to the Truth and to a right Path.
31. O our people! Respond to Allah’s caller (the Prophet Muhammad) and believe in him, He (Allah) will forgive you your sins and save you from a painful Torment.
32. And whoever does not respond to Allah’s caller, he cannot escape in the earth and there will be no protectors for him against Allah (God). It is they who are in manifest error.
33. Have they not considered that Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth and was not wearied by their creation, is able to give life to the dead?
Yes, He is surely Able to do all things.
34. And on the Day when those who disbelieve will be brought before the Hellfire (they will be asked): Is this not the Truth? They will say: Yes, by (Allah) our Lord!
He will say: Then taste the Torment, because you disbelieved (in the Truth).
35. So be patient (O Prophet Muhammad) as did the Messengers of strong will (and firm resolve: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all), and do not seek to hasten for them (their doom). On the Day that they will see what they are promised they will be as if they had not stayed except an hour of the day. (This is) sufficient notification! Shall then any be destroyed except those defiantly disobedie?
